Building a Webstore “A Musician’s Journey”

So Far………..

So to get you up to speed, here’s what I’ve done so far.  I’ve set up a webserver, bought our domain name, got all of our items together, got pictures, wrote descriptions, added a bunch of color graphics, signed up for everything Google has to offer, started paying for Adwords, kicked around some viral ad ideas, created a Blog, set up a forum/message board, and signed up for every social network there is, sold stuff on Ebay-Craigslist, solicited every one of our vendors to link to us from their sites, and, and ….. breathe……breathe.  That being said, where are all the people?  Where’s the millions of dollars cha-chinging through our SSL protected, credit card accepting, wish-listing shopping cart?  Uuuugggghhh!

Me……….

I guess I should introduce myself….. My name is Greg, and I work for Hoffman Music Co.  I have been a musician all of my life mostly.  I have been on the road, played in all types of venues,  I’ve played in front of thousands of people a couple of times (okay once).  I moved to Washington to study music in college.  Joined a Salsa band, started a funk band, and gig almost every weekend.  Unfortunatley none of that prepared me for the task of building a musical instrument store’s website.  Fortunately, I’ve had some good help along the way and I’m a quick study (hopefully quick enough).

Programming…………

I’ve never had any training in programming so I have a lot of ground to make up.  I am learning  a lot or at least enough of the basics to get by, a little asp.net, SQL, HTML, Java, VB, C#, C#.net, and, and ……  It really keeps my head spinning.  I have been reading whatever I can get my hands on, copying, googling, and taking classes whenever possible.

Well I think that pretty much catches you up. I’ll keep posting my progress as I go, maybe I’ll get a few people to see my site.

Right now I am getting about 300 hits per day without paying for Adwords, just keeping the site Organic.  From here forward, every time I try something to increase website traffic, I’ll post what I did and the number of site hits I get after doing it.

Talk to you soon!

Greg
